Four Steps To An Enjoyable Family Vacation

Family vacations are a great time to bond with loved ones. Of course, they can be tricky, too, as you try to keep everyone happy in new surroundings. These tips can help make your family vacation one to remember – positively. 1. Be prepared. Trips are fun, but travel can be a trial, particularly with younger (or disagreeable) family members. Pack a goodie bag with favorite snacks, paper, crayons, and a new toy, then bring it out when little ones get bored. Get a new book for older children and teens to keep them busy while you wait in the airport. Surprise treats are just as useful for grown-ups; if you know grandma gets fidgety 10 minutes into a flight, surprise her with a new Sudoku book. 2. Plan, but be flexible. It’s easy to waste half a day deciding which attraction to hit, and how to get there. Save time by making a schedule and getting directions before you leave home. Don’t be too rigid, though. Bad weather, sprained ankles, and other unexpected changes happen, so be willing to change plans when necessary. 3. Include something for everyone. It’s pretty much a guarantee that at least one person won’t be interested in any given event. Let each family member choose something they’d like to see or do during the holiday. A visit to a kid-geared attraction can make a big difference to younger travelers, while your teen will appreciate getting to choose where the family eats dinner some nights. 4. Leave worries behind. Nothing ruins a holiday like a sulky cousin who refuses to speak to you, or an aunt who’s been annoyed since Thanksgiving. See if past problems can’t be put on the shelf before you embark on your trip. Starting out a holiday worry-free makes it all the easier to make more marvellous memories.
